More information : [SS 98621397]Craze Loman 'Barrow'. (48-50 yards from B.M. 279.4). Ploughed. 100' in diameter, and 6' in height, cut by road bank. Flakes and flints found by Lady Fox in field and on barrow, in May 1951. (1) A circular ditchless mound 0.9m. high at SS 98691399 which has been mutilated by a hedge bank and roadway. It is possibly a bowl barrow, but it is very low-lying, and might be a natural formation. Surveyed at 1/2.500. (2)
A rapid examination of air photography (3a) shows this probable Prehistoric or Roman bowl barrow, as a low mound and a semi-circular dark cropmark (the other half is masked by the hedgeline and the road), similar to other cropmark barrows. (3) |
