(TL 11149733) Roman Villa (R) (Site of) (NAT)

Ro building "280 yds east of the (Water Newton) church" partly
excavated by Artis in 1826, see illustration. Frescoed walls and
mosaics found. "The pavements are undoubtedly those mentioned by
Morton as being a paved road which led from Water Newton to
Normangate Field". (a)

The indicated site is under pasture, no traces of antiquity noted.
One sherd of RB greyware found in the field to the immediate south
of the site.
