Great Gate (Outer Gate, Marsh Foregate) Grade 1. Erected by
Abbot Benedict about 1174-94 and altered 1302-7. The chamber
above was originally a Chapel to St Nicholas. Old drawings show
that there was another storey, now destroyed, over the chapel. (2-3)
