Summary : An Augustinian Priory. It was originally founded as a hospital before 1135 by Roger de St Martin and Richard Ward, the latter becoming an Augustinian canon shortly after the foundation, and refounding the hospital as an Augustinian Priory for 3-4 canons. The hospital continued as such until at least 1200. Dissolved in 1537. The foundations of a long building are incorporated in a later building, and there is evidence for a precinct wall. |

The priory of St Stephen originally founded as a hospital before 1135 became a priory with 3 or 4 canons sometime after 1200. It was dissolved in 1537. (2)
Remains comprise the foundations of a long building at TF91642890. The roadside fence from TF 91562884 - TF 91562889 has been raised on top of an old wall, possibly precinct. One hundred yards north are a few fragments of walling intermingled with debris from the now demolished Abbey Farm. An area of disturbance south of the long foundation appears to be drainage. See 25" survey. (3) |
