More information : [TF67422469] TUMULUS [O.E.] (1)
There is some doubt about this being a Tumulus. Its shape is irregular & it is mutilated by sand quarrying. (2)
A large mound raised on the east end of a low spur carrying three scots firs, birch scrub and dense bracken. Its flat top is inclined gently to the south but there are no traces of a ditch. A mutilation on the south side seems to be a sand quarry. Ht. 3.5m. Not classifiable without excavation. Pub survey (25") correct. (3)
Described as Motte castle in Keeper's Wood, Scheduled Monument no 21330. (4)
Possibly a siege castle. (5) |
