Summary : Mullicourt Priory, dedicated to St Mary Bello Loco, was extant as a small Saxon monastery of the Benedictine order of which the date and founder is unknown. It was subject to flooding and represented as too poor to support more than one monk in the time of King Henry VI - 1445. Therefore, in 1449 it was appropriated to the priory of Ely and at the Dissolution it was valued with Ely. Nothing remains above the foundations and the site is now partly occupied by a farmhouse. |

Aerial photographs taken in June 2009 show a large ditched rectangular enclosure visible immediately to the NE of Milcourt Priory Farm possibly the Priory enclosure. The eastern ditch can be seen extending SW to the Downham Road, suggesting it enclosed the site of the Priory. There are cropmark hints at inner enclosures. (5) |
