More information : [TF 4076 7158] Church [G.T.] (Site of). (1) Dexthorpe is mentioned in 1086 and 1334. A priest was last instituted in 1451 and, by 1577, the village was a pasture of two acres in which stood the church and parsonage. Air photographs seem to indicate an area at TF 4090 7153. Some earthworks were recorded around the grid reference quoted by the previous authorities. The earthworks were mapped from good quality air photographs. The Medieval village remains comprise crofts, a church, a building, a pond and trackways.
The church was recorded as grassed over foundations at the grid reference quoted by authority 1. It has a possible south-facing entrance. Two trackways run across the site. One runs E-W, centred at TF 4080 7158, and the other runs NE-SW, centred at TF 4089 7176. They are ditch-defined.
Several croft boundaries run to the south of the E-W trackway. They are mainly ditch-defined centred at TF 4079 7152. Further to the east they are bank-defined (TF 4088 7148). There is a possible square building at TF 4081 7156. It is 8m by 8m and defined by grassed over foundations. To the south of the village is a pond, 40m by 10m, centred at TF 4076 7146.
