More information : Greenfield, a hamlet and chapelry, had a church (St. Mary), which was still occasionally in use in the 18th century. (1) [See TF 47 NW 4 for site of Priory and traces of other earthworks.] (2) Greenfield was a Cistercian House and this hamlet must have originated after the Dissolution. There are no surface indications of desertion - other than the Priory - nor is there local knowledge or tradition of a village and church. (3)
Nothing identifiable as Medieval village remains were visible on air photographs in the the area centred TF 43 77. (4) |
