Kings Hill

Hob Uid: 355193
Location :
Lincolnshire
Boston
Wrangle
Grid Ref : TF4135053100
Summary : Medieval motte and bailey, part of which is still visible as earthworks, although some areas have been completely ploughed out. The motte is circular in plan 60m in diameter and 2m high and surounded by a ditch 2m deep. The bailey to the south was also moated. It measures 60m north south by 70m east west. The site is believed to be associated with a manorial estate established during the 11th and 12th centuries, in the early 17th century this passed to James I and the site became known as Kings Hill. Scheduled.
More information : [TF 41405304] King's Hill Motte and Bailey [G.T.]. (1)

King's Hill is a fine Motte and Bailey, still strong and undamaged. Extensive foundations within the moated area indicate a house of some importance.

Scheduled. (2-4)

Only the motte with its bailey to the south have survived centred
TF 41355310, the published earthworks to the east, west and south having all been ploughed out.

Disturbed areas on top of the motte and within the bailey probably indicate the sites of buildings.

Resurveyed at 1:2500. (5)
