More information : [TF 3159 8364] Moat. [GT]. (1)
Moated site north-west of Tathwell Cottage, scheduled [See TF 38 SW 7]. (2)
A homestead moat with adjacent fishponds. Resurveyed at 1/2500. (3)
The moat and fishponds referred to by the previous authorities were seen as earthworks and have been mapped from good quality air photographs. The moat, centred at TF 3159 8364 was visible as a rectilinear substantially ditched enclosure with an entrance in its north side. Attached to its south side is an 'L' shaped fish pond. The stream adjacent has been diverted to bypass the moat. Leats link the fishponds and the moat to the stream. The moat, although in Tathwell parish is nearer to the Medieval settlement remains at Maltby (TF 38 SW 7) and may represent part of a manorial complex associated with the settlement.
