Summary : Parish church. 14th and 15th century, restored by James Fowler 1875 and tower rebuilt 1894 by C. Hodgson Fowler. Squared greenstone rubble, limestone ashlar dressings, Welsh and Westmorland slate roofs, decorative tiled ridges. Nave, western tower, south aisle and porch, chancel. Part of a coped or round-topped grave slab of 11th century Saxon date is set at the threshold of the tower west door, and may have been reset there in 1894. Remains of 14th century churchyard cross.

St. Michael's restored and partly rebuilt in 1870, 1875 and 1894 contains Decorated and Perpendicular work.

A Saxon coped stone grave slab with interlaced work, is used as a step to the west door.

The lower part of the shaft (about 43 in.) of the restored
churchyard cross is original. (2-4)

The church is in normal use. (See GP. AO/64/59/6 for Saxon gravestone). The cross is at TF 3635 6656 (See GPs. AO/64/59/4 and 5). (5)
