The house of the Austin Friars at Boston was founded in 1317-18 and surrendered in 1539. The site, estimated at ten acres, lying near St. John's churchyard, was leased in 1541 to Thomas Browne, of Boston. Nothing remains above ground, but irregularities of the surface denote foundations. A great part of the site is now occupied by the Union Poorhouse. (2-4)
