Summary : House of Crutched Friars founded in Whaplode by 1244 but abandoned in 1260. It was the first house of the Flemish Branch of the Crutched Friars founded in England.
More information : [Marginal] The house of Crutched friars of St. Mary "de
novo loco", which lay between Saturday Dyke and Hassock Dyke,
Whaplode, was founded in 1246-7, and, between 1260-69, was granted
to the Priory of Spalding.
Saturday Dyke, now Little South Holland Drain, extends through the
parish of Whaplode from TF 310193 to TF 341200, and Hassock Dyke
from TF 310175 to TF 334180. (1-3)
