More information : The deserted village of North Cadeby, or Cadeby St Helen east of Cadeby Hall [TF 27039591] is mentioned in 1334. The last institution of a priest was by 1367; date of depopulation is c.1349. Scheduled. (1-2) [Area approx: TF 2704591] Located on air photographs. (3) The remaining earthworks of this deserted village centred at TF 2716 9590, have been surveyed at 1:2500. (4)
The Medieval settlement remains, referred to by the previous authority, were seen as earthworks and mapped from good quality air photographs. Potential crofts and tofts, with hollow ways, running between them, are visible in area measuring 300m by 200m, to the east of Cadeby Hall, centred at TF 2725 9601. No clear street pattern is visible and the enclosures which define the crofts and tofts could have served some other function but it is not clear from air photographs alone. Remains of a possible building are visible, in one of the enclosures, centred at TF 2725 9601. Adjacent are the remains of a curvilinear embanked enclosure, with a scooped out centre, centred at TF 2725 9599. The settlement was once surrounded by ridge and furrow but only one block survives as earthworks, centred at TF 2692 9564, and two blocks are visible in the possible crofts, centred at TF 2725 9595.
