Location :

Summary : A Neolithic long barrow surviving as an earthwork. It has been damaged by rabbit burrows, which has exposed the chalk make-up of the barrow. Scheduled.
More information : TF 2945 8225 Long Barrow (NR). (1)

Long barrow, north of Cadwell, length 105ft, width 52ft height 5ft
6in. Scheduled. (2-3)

Listed by Ashbee. Larger end to SE. (4)

A long barrow situated in a small copse on the SE side of a valley. It is oriented NW-SE with the long axis measuring 25.0 m, a lateral maximum of 14.0 m at the broad upper end and narrowing to 10.0 m. The height decreases from a maximum of 1.6 m at the larger end to 0.4 m. The make up of the barrow can be seen in rabbit burrows as chalk. No traces of side ditches can be seen.

1:2500 survey (1963) revised. (5)

The long barrow described by the previous authorities was not visible
on available air photographs as it was masked by trees. (6)

The Neolithic long barrow is visible as an earthwork on a digital elevation model derived from the Structure from Motion of 2016 oblique air photographs, centred at TF 2945 8226. Although not directly visible on the photography, the barrow mound is faintly visible on the digital elevation model under the trees. The mound is elongated north-west by south-east and measures approximately 31m by 13m, though this is may be less accurate than the statement above due to disturbance of the DEM caused by dense vegetation.
