More information : (TF 00876194) Dunston Pillar (NAT) (1) A beacon, built in 1751, to guide travellers crossing Lincoln Heath. (2) Dunston Pillar, a square tapering pillar built as a lighthouse in 1751 by Sir Francis Dashwood to guide travellers over the desolate heath. A statue of George III replaced the lantern in 1810 but this has been recently removed (3). The pillar was formerly 92 ft high with a staircase inside; now reduced to a stump by demolition during the 1939-45 war. Grade 2 (4). (3-4)
