MAREHAM GRANGE

A medieval moated site visible as cropmarks on air photos. It has recently been levelled. It is thought to be the site of a medieval grange, the property of Sempringham Priory, and the site of the medieval village of Mareham or Cold Mareham. The infilled moat encloses an area 210m by 170m. Fragments of stonework and pottery dating fromt the 14th to the 16th centuries have been found in the plough soil within the area of the moated island. Scheduled.
