Grid Ref : TF0300031000
Summary : Medieval settlement recorded in documentary sources.
More information : Little Lavington or Lenton, a lost hamlet lying between Lavington
now Lenton [TF 026303] and Hanby [TF 026317], is mentioned in the
Domesday Survey (Parva Lavintune).

An award of tithe rentcharge, dated 17th May, 1846, shows that the
territory of Little Lavington lay to the east of the Lavington-
Sapperton road and, with the exception of one close, on the south
side of the Lavington-Folkingham road, that it came to within 1/4
mile of Lavington church on the south, and to within less than 1/2
mile of Hanby Grange on the north. Described in the award as "the
hamlet of Lavington otherwise called Lenton". (1)

Extensive perambulation, local enquiry and examination of air cover
revealed neither indication nor knowledge of this village. (2)

Listed by Beresford at TF 030 310. (3)

TF 026312. Probable site of extinct hamlet of "Little Lavington". (4)

No change since 18-5-65 except that the area is on rolling arable
land some 76.0m above sea level.

OS air photographs were not available for inspection. (5)

TF 03 SE 10 identified as possible DMV site of Little Lenton or
Little Lavington was fieldwalked by SLAU in 1979. (6)(7)(8)

Examination of all available air photographs revealed no evidence of
Medieval settlement at TF 030 310, cited by authority 3, or at
TF 026 312, cited by authority 4, except for ploughed out ridge and
furrow in both these locations. (9)
