More information : [TF 02793201] HANBY GRANGE [GT] (Site of) (1)
Hanby Grange is perhaps the Little Lavington grange mentioned Temp. Richard I. The abbot of Vaudey granted a lease of the grange to Sir John Jussey (b.1465). In 1534 Vaudey Abbey held desmesne, home farm and lands in Lavington cum Hambeke. See TF 03 SW 11 for Little Lavington D.M.V. Fishponds and the carriage approach of the grange were recently traceable (2-3)
A pond at TF 02803194 and a marshy tract to the immediate NW are the fish ponds. There is no trace of the grange, the site being under crop. No carriage approach was seen. (4)
No change since 19 5 65. (5)
There was no evidence of the carriageway described by authority 2-3 on available air photographs. The pond, marked on the Ordnance Survey Map, was partially masked by tree cover, and the amorphous area of marshy fishponds although visible, was not transcribed. (6) |
