More information : A moat and associated village earthworks are to be found north of Lenton Lodge. At about TF 056313. (1)
Site identified as possibly Little Lenton or Little Lavington (see also TF 03 SW 11). Earthworks levelled and ploughed in 1978. Saxon Norman to 13th century pottery found and from moated site at W only 16th century pottery found during fieldwalking by SLAU in 1979. (2)(3)(4)
The Medieval settlement referred to by the previous authorities was visible as earthworks and has been mapped from poor quality air photographs. The probable remains of tofts were visible, centred at TF 0559 3137, as nine conjoined rectilinear ditch defined enclosures measuring on average 40m by 40m. At the east end of the enclosures to the north of Lenton Lodge is a moat visible as a substantially ditched rectilinear enclosure measuring 55m by 45m internally and centred at TF 0544 3124. There were no traces of buildings in the interior. The settlement remains had been seriously encroached on by the adjacent airfield at the time the earliest photography was taken in 1946 and has now been ploughed. Lenton Lodge has also been destroyed. There is no definite evidence that this is the same village described as Little Lenton or Little Lavington in Domesday Book and in tithe maps (see TF 03 SW 11).
