St Barbaras Church

Summary : A former parish church, now redundant, probably built during the early 12th century with later 13th to 16th century alterations and additions. The church was restored in 1924. Coursed limestone rubble and ashlar, pantiled, plain tiled, lead end asbestos sheet roofs having raised stone coped gables. Unbuttressed west tower, clerestoried nave, south aisle and porch, chancel.Built of coursed limestone rubble and ashlar with tile and lead end roofs, the building comprises a west tower, clerestoried nave, south aisle and porch with chancel. The dedication is thought to be to St Barbara whose name is engraved on both bells but it may be to St Margaret.

Haceby Church has a plain, Norman (early 12th century) chancel arch, and an Early English west tower with a 14th century belfrey. The chancel is 13th century and the south doorway and windows 15th century.

The dedication is given as St Margaret (2) (3) St Barbara (4): Pevsner (5) says 'unknown'. (2-6)

The church is in normal use.

Local enquiries indicate the dedication is to St Barbara, whose name is engraved on both bells. (7)

Declared redundant in 1973, now maintained by Redundant Churches Funds. (8)
