DESCRIPTION

Village mentioned from the time of the Domesday Survey onwards. There was a chantry chapel here in the 12th centry. A priest was last instituted at Southorpe in 1521, and, by 1563, one family only remained. No earthwork evidence survives.

TF 04352487 Southorpe Village (NR) (Site of) (NAT) (1)

Southorpe is shown on ancient maps 1 1/2 to 2 miles south-east
of Irnham and rather less south-west of Bulby, in the north part
of the parish of Edenham.
The village is mentioned from the time of the Domesday Survey
onwards. There was a chantry chapel here in the 12th centry. A
priest was last instituted at Southorpe in 1521, and, by 1563, one
family only remained.

Local enquiry confirmed the position of Southorpe village at the
published site.

The area is situated in arable land some 61.0m above sea level
and no surface trace remains. (2-3)

The site of the chapel was not determined.
