Summary : Parish church. Mid 13th century, circa 1300 and 1350, mid 15th and 16th centuries, restored 1860. Coursed limestone rubble, limestone ashlar, some red brick, some render. Lead roofs with stone coped gables with cross finials. West tower, nave with broad, long south aisle running full length of church, with south porch and chancel. |
More information : [TF 09772781] St. Andrew's Ch. TU (1) St Andrew's Church, Rippingale, is Early English to Perpendicular, well restored in the 19th century. (2-4) In normal use. (5) A Church of St Andrew 15C square ashler tower. 13C. S.porch. Early 14C S.aisle, & arcade. 13C chancel. 15C octagonal font. The fine canopy of the 15C screen remains, incorporated in a modern wood chancel arch. 13C recumbent figures of knights in armour, possiblly of the Gobard family who founded the church c.1250. Altar tomb of Roger de Quincy & his two wives. 13C figure of an ecclesiastic. Recessed tomb under enriched ogee arch of Lady Margaret de Colville. Marmyon slab c.1535 from which brasses have been removed. (6)
