Summary : Site of a possible Roman building, perhaps a villa. The foundations of a building, oak posts, stones and bricks, a tile fragment and some potsherds were found during the 1880s when an attempt was made to find a subterranean passage which was rumoured to run between the abbey and the castle at Bourne.
More information : [Area TF 09571995] The foundations of a building and
about twelve feet of black mud, oak posts, stones and bricks,
glazed Roman tile fragment, and some Roman pottery, were
discovered, after two days' work, when an attempt was made to
find a subterranean passage supposed to run between the castle
and the abbey at Bourne. (1)
