More information : (SP 86170714) Tumulus (OE) (1) SP 862072 Bacombe Hill. Probable bell-barrow Diam 50 ft, height 3 ft, berm 25 ft, width of ditch 5 ft. On southern side of bell-barrow a pond barrow, diameter 24 ft, depth 1 ft, outer bank 6 ft wide and 1 ft high. (2) The 'Tumulis' is a probable bowl barrow under light pasture at the end of a prominent E-facing spur. It measures overall c 12.5m in diameter and is c 0.5m high. No trace of a ditch was found. The 'ditch' referred to (Auth 2) is a scarp of irregular shape, prominent on the NE side of the barrow, which merges into the hill slope to the S. It is not associated with the barrow, and appears natural. Dyer's 'pond barrow', at SP 86160712, is a sub-circular depression c 6.0m in overall diameter and c 0.4 deep. The only impression of a bank is on the downhill S side, where spoil from the hole would naturally be thrown. Observation is hindered by scrub growth, but there has been much digging on this hill and the feature is probably not an antiquity. Published survey (25") correct. (3)
