Hob Uid: 342696
Location :
Buckinghamshire
Berryfields
Grid Ref : SP7870017700
Summary : Earthworks of a deserted Medieval settlement bounded by ridge and furrow. Field investigations in 1977 identified a street pattern, enclosure, possible house steads and a partly waterfilled moated site.
More information : DMV Quarrendon (iii) SP 788177, accepted in 1965. There are traces of earthworks visible on air photographs. (1-3)

A minor deserted medieval village situated in permanent pasture, and
bounded by rig and furrow. Traces of street pattern, enclosures and
possible house steads are recognisable. (4)

At SP 78781785 are the remains of a homestead moat, partly
waterfilled, with arms approx 8.0m wide. Where dry, the moat is
approx 1.3m deep. There is an exterior bank approx 1.0 high on the
south arm, and traces of an exterior bank on the west arm. The
enclosed area shows disturbed ground under pasture around a modern
barn, and stands at the same height as the surrounding level. The
moat is spring fed draining to a pond at the angle of the south and
west arms.

Surveyed at 1:2500 on AM.

No change since report of 9.10.73. AM survey correct. (5)

A rapid examination of air photography (6a) shows the settlement and probable moat as earthworks in 1969. (6)
