Summary : Wooden post-mill with brick roundhouse, dated 1711 surviving as a roofed building. Windmill. Restored 20th century. Postmill with red brick round-house and timber-framed body covered with weather boarding. Round-house has 4 small brick buttresses, 2 doors and 2 boarded 1-light windows. The body has 2-leaved part stable type door up long flight of open wooden steps. Restored wooden sails and tail pole. The body inside has close studding and chamfered timbers, wooden machinery, and 2 sets of millstones. |
More information : The sails of the only complete surviving wooden post mill in Leicestershire (dated 1711) at Kibworth Harcourt (SP 68879440) was badly damaged in the 1961 November gales. Early C18 post-mill a fine example of its type with much of its wooden machinery still in situ. Oak-framed weather boarded body with close studding and chamfered timbers, the principle post is inscribed "Daniel Hutchinson 1711" Brick round-house. Two of the sails and the tail pole missing (1971). (4)
