'...The site of the 'Old Hall', (North Kilworth) is marked by a
moat, 18 ft. wide and 3 ft. deep, inclosing three sides of a

digging for gravel.' Listed as Class G earthwork, moated inclosure

By an inquisition taken at Leicester on November 7th 1520,
William Belgrave was found to have died seised of a manor or
capital messuage in North Kilworth. (3)

The house which stood at the site marked by the OS was known as
Nether Hall. It was standing in 1820 bu by 1830 is recorded as
'down'. This house was the manor house and had been in the
Belgrave family for centuries. [A small watercolour in
Mrs. Belgrave's possession, dated 1821, shows a two storied house
of six bays with a central gable-part, at least of 17th C. date.]

The major part of the field in which the Hall stood is now
occupied by chicken-runs and associated buildings. The only
earthwork surviving is a small homestead moat, at SP 61808330.
This has three sides wet, the westernmost being broken by a
restored causeway. The eastern side is dry but the depress{on of
it is clearly visible. No evidence of the building - the MD.
predecessor to the building destroyed before 1830 - was seen.
