Steane Manor House site stands in a spot chosen so that a large quantity of water could be collected in moats surrounding it. (2)
Originally a large double moat, the east and south areas have now, in part, been destroyed. Published (25") survey revised. There is no evidence of foundations on the islands. (3)
Fishponds and Garden remains. The two rectangular islands are probably the remains of a set of medieval fishponds, remodelled to form part of a garden at the time that the manor was rebuilt in the early 17th century. A possible terrace walk exists along the E. side of the E. pond, and the remains of possible flower beds lie immediately to the S. [RCHM plan]. (4) |
