Merton Templars Preceptory

Hob Uid: 338615
Location :
Oxfordshire
Cherwell
Merton
Grid Ref : SP5700017000
Summary : Possible Preceptory of Knights Templars. Merton was granted to the Templars circa 1156.
More information : (SP 5717) Merton was granted to the Knights Templars
by Simon Earl of Northampton circa 1156, and there appears to
have been a preceptory here. (1-2)

No corroborative evidence for the existence of a preceptory is
possible although the Oxford S & M Records (See SP 51 NE 12)
suggest that the site could have been in the area of medieval
shrinkage near the church. (3)
