Summary : Deserted settlement possibly located in Ditchley Park. The settlement was documented throughout the C14-C17. It is thought to be within the area of the formal gardens but no traces can be seen either on the ground or on aerial photographs.
More information : SP 390211. Ditchley. A.DMV. Taxed with Spelsbury and Enstone in 1334. In mid-16th century a house and three tenants; in 1609 a 'fair house', another house, and two cottages. In 1641 five names in protestation returns. Held by Earls of Warwick. Mansion remains in Ditchley Park with Home Farm nearby. 'No visible remains yet traced at site; site thought to lie under cover of ornamental gardens etc.' (1) There are no surface indications of desertion in this area. APs (OS 72/036 144, 45) inspected with negative results. (2)
