Historic England Research Records

Monument Number 334547

Hob Uid: 334547
Location :
Oxfordshire
West Oxfordshire
Finstock
Grid Ref : SP3545017050
Summary : ? Barrow (site of) (doubtful)
More information : Long Barrow? Site seen from air 6 6 30, an irregular,
much spread enclosure of brown colour, position of camp or Castle
Mound and bailey. Not square, apparently, but so much spread
that shape is hard to determine. (1)

This though much denuded by ploughing, is still quite visible,
but I am doubtful whether it is to be regarded as a round barrow,
rather spread by cultivation, or a short long barrow. There is
not sufficient evidence as yet to justify marking it as a long
barrow. (2)

At SP 3545 1705 is a low unsurveyable rise visible in profile
under fresh plough; a heavy surface stone spread is evident but
nothing was visible to suggest the feature may have been a burial
mound. Possibly a natural knoll. (3)
