More information : (SP 17125244) Milcote Manor. (NAT). Moat. (NR) (Site of) (NAT) (1) "...At Lower Milcote, or Milcote-on-Avon, is a moated site, roughly, 200' square; ....". Further described as the Old Manor House and stated that it is uncertain whether it was this or Grevell's House (SP 15 SE 17) that was burned by Parliamentary troops in December 1644. (2) Most of the moat has been either destroyed or incorporated into a landscaped garden. On the east the inner scarp is represented by a rockery, whilst the outer is still evident in the plough. A two arched brick bridge crosses the remains of the ditch to the south. The Manor House has a mid 18th c. south frontage. Re-used stonework (reputedly from the unfinished castle SP 15 SE 17) surmounted by 17th c. timber framing occupies the north-east corner, and on the west side is a stone chimney dated 1564. Remains of moat surveyed at 1/2500. (3) Milcote Manor, on the site of an older house, is partly 17th century, altered and enlarged in the 19th century. Grade 2. (4) Moat at Lower Milcote - The description by FI is basically correct. No trace of the west arm remains and the north side could only be identified by the differential colouring of the grass marking the destroyed ditch. On the east side the scarp is represented by a rockery and a fishpond has recently been built on this side. A shallow dip marks the remnants of the south side and this is still crossed by the two-arched bridge. (5) Additional bibliography. (6)
