More information : (SP 17705199) Milcote Castle (GT) (Site of) (1) Ludovic Grevell in 1567 "obtained Royal license to build and embattle a new house at Milcote and call it Mountgrevell. This he began but never completed... the ruins were still standing in 1730. It is not quite clear whether it was this or the old Manor House, 1/4 mile north, (SP 15 SE 22), that was burned by Parliamentary troops ... in Dec 1644." (2) Mrs. Stenley, wife of the farmer, of Milcote Hall said that about 1943 foundations were ploughed up in the proximity of the published site. There is nothing to be seen there now the field being arable and under crop. (3)
