WALTHAM ROMAN VILLA

Foundations of a Roman villa were found 600 metres north-west of Whittington Court by W. Cox in 1978. The villa, dating from the 1st to the 5th century AD had been redeveloped twice or possibly three times during this period. Finds included wall plaster, tesserae, flue and roof tiles, a coin of Constantinus II, AD 337-346, Severn Valley ware, Black burnish ware I, Malvern ware and Samian ware. In 2000 Time Team undertook evaluation trenches and geophysical survey to confirm Cox's findings and increase the understanding and extent of the site.
