MONUMENT NO. 327354

DESCRIPTION + /

The site of a Roman villa is alleged at this location following the discovery of the Orpheus mosaic and foundations of a Roman building in 1825. A building was erected over the mosaic to protect it. Further work in 1909 revealed an inhumation burial with shield which was dated to the Saxon period. Two Roman coins were also recovered. The mosaic was removed and donated to the Corinium Museum. Occupation of the area by farm buildings has precluded further investigation.
