More information : [SK 97477111] St.Benedict's Ch. [T.U.] (Disused). (1) [SK 97477111] Church [T.U.] (Dis) [T.I.] (2) St. Benedict's is of Pre-Conquest origin. (3) St. Benedict's Church. The earliest documentary evidence is a writ of Henry I. dated 1100-7. There now remain only the Early English chancel, a side-chapel and a late 17th c. tower. (4) The Church is again in use, a Notice-board outside reads "Church of S. Benedict. This church, dating from the 13th c. was repaired AD.1932 and dedicated on 26th Nov. as a place of prayer and rest for those visiting the war memorial. It is also used as a church for the deaf and dumb". (5)
Former church of St Benedict. Now the offices of the Lincoln Diocesan Mother's Union. 13th and early 14th century, the nave and north aisle demolished and the west tower rebuilt. Restored and converted to secular use in 1931. Grade 2*. (6) |
