More information : SK 95095132 Tumulus (NAT). (1) A circular mound in Leadenham Park, in a field named Mill Hill Close, partly excavated in 1908. It was 50 feet in diameter at the base and 30 feet at the top which was flat and 4 feet above the surrounding ground, with slight traces of a ditch. A cruciform trench was found at the centre, 18 inches deep and carefully packed with thin slabs of limestone. There was also a circle of stones about 2 feet wide surrounding the cross. (See plan and section) The name of the field and construction of the mound led to the conclusion that it was a mill mound. (2)
The Medieval windmill mound referred to by the previous authorities was seen as earthworks and mapped from good quality air photographs. The mound is partially masked by trees and bushes and a hedgerow appears to cut its eastern part. It is 25m in diameter. (Morph No. LI.863.1.1)
