More information : [SK 9223 3260] Tumulus [OE]. (1) Round barrow, 47 paces across, 7 ft high, no ditch. Undisturbed. (2) Thought by Mr Preston of Grantham to be merely material excavated from the gravel pit to the NW, but this is by no means certain. (3) Scheduled round barrow. (4) The mound, as described by Auth 2, stands in sandy soil on a position of some prominence. Certain classification is impossible without excavation. Published survey (25" 1931) correct. (5)
The mound referred to by the previous authorities was seen as earthworks and mapped from poor quality air photographs. It is 40m in diameter and is located as stated by the previous authority. There are eight possible Bronze Age barrows within a one kilometer radius and the mound could be related to these (see SK 93 SW 33-36). (Morph No. LI.735.7.1)
