More information : (SK 99231382) Church (remains of). (1) The church was probably partially destroyed at the time of the battle of Losecoat Field. Towards the end of the 17th cent it was in such a decayed state that only the steeple remained, consisting of a spire and tower. Although it was described by Stukeley as being 'a very fine steeple seen all around the country', the spire (in 1728) and tower (in 1731) were taken down and used to build or repair bridges at Wakerley and Casterton. (2) A double-chamfered arch, from about the 14th cent (which was the outer entrance arch into the south porch) is all that remains of the medieval church. To the west of the arch stands the new church built in 1821. (3) Only the doorway of the church survives, at SK 99161387 (See photo). It is thought locally that the stained glass windows from Pickworth are now in Clipsham Church. (4)
