(3) A large Manorial site in very good condition under permanent pasture. Traces of building foundations can be seen on the moat island but they form no coherent pattern. Resurveyed at 1:2500. (4)
SK 8388 1512. Moor Lane moated site, Whissendine. The rectangular moat measures 125m x 135m, most of which is dry, is 20m wide, and 2-2.5m deep. It is recorded as one of two moats originally joined together, but the second, to the south cannot be identified with certainty. The moat island surface is uneven, marking the location of stone foundations of the manor house. The main moat is surrounded by an outer bank with a channel running south which may have linked with the second moat. The whole site is surrounded by a low outer bank less than 1m high at a distance of 25-35m from the main moat. The site is believed to be the Manor of Moorhall, referred to from 1306. Scheduled (RSM) No. 17010. (5) |
