Summary : Medieval motte and bailey castle, in quite good condition although both the motte and the bailey have been damaged by animal tread particularly the bailey. The Motte is 460 feet in circumference at the base and 198 feet at the top, with an escarpment of 50 feet slope at its highest. A probable entrance to the bailey exists to the north. Scheduled.
More information : (SK 73526896). Gaddick Hill (NR). (1)

"One of the best examples of the motte & bailey type of defences in the county ... Gaddick Hill is 460' in circumference at the base and 198' at the top, with an escarpment of 50' slope at its highest ... mutilated by the local games upon it on every recurring Shrove Tuesday. The terrace on the SE of the summit may be the result of modern vandalism, but is more likely an original feature, providing a landing place for the draw-ladder: Bailey largely destroyed by farmhouse and yard. It "was provided with an entrance in the middle of the arc and from the extant fragments it appears to have been of some strength." Plan - see illustration Card.

The motte is in quite good condition, but the bailey is poor, being much mutilated and at present subjected to considerable sheep and cattle tread. A probable entrance exists to the north but all detail to the SE has been obliterated, by the Manor House and farm buildings. The suggestion of authy. 2 that the configuration on top of the motte is original and probably correct.
