More information : The church of Ossington with it appurtenances was granted to the Knights Hospitallers by Archbishop William (1143-54). In 1338 there were two Knights, one being preceptor, with a chaplain and other officials. Ossington had become united to Newland in 1534. (1)

Pevsner (a) notes - 'Holy Rood, 1782 .... Monuments ... R Peckham 1551'. This without doubt indicates an earlier church, if not on the same site then close by, with the preceptory presumably adjacent. (3) |
