Historic England Research Records

Monument Number 322463

Hob Uid: 322463
Location :
Nottinghamshire
Newark and Sherwood
Fiskerton cum Morton
Grid Ref : SK7300051000
Summary : Possible cell of Augustinian Canons, founded circa 1139, at Fiskerton. According to Tanner, a few canons were placed here soon after the manor was granted to Thurgarton Priory. But the places are only 2.5 miles apart, and it is more likely that there was a chapel at Fiskerton which was served by Thurgarton canons. (This could be the chapel of St Mary, SK75SW9).
More information : A cell of Augustinian Canons was possibly established at Fiskerton, Notts, in c.1139. (1)

Research at CRO Nottingham and M/S room University of Nottingham gave no information reagarding this suggested establishment. (2)
