Summary : Formerly Priory Farmhouse. Early 16th century farmhouse with 16th chapel. The farm was built on the site of a monastic grange of Launde Priory, founded in the 13th century, but abandoned by 1393. The house is L-plan with two storeys.
More information : (SK 683 202) Priory Farm on remains of Priory (NR) (SK 683 202) Chapel (NR) (1) Priory Farm. Remains of a grange of Launde Priory, bought early in the 13th c and lost by 1393. What remains is of post-abbey date and comprises an oblong room with two straight-headed two light E.Tudor windows, and an oblong block converted to a living house c.1600. (2). Chapel, 16th cent (3), scheduled (4). (Not mentioned in Knowles and Hadcock). (2-4) The Chapel is a small separate building standing at SK68312027 and is in a poor state of repair - see photo. The farmhouse at SK 6830 2025 incorporates the 'living house' in its western corner and here part of a fireplace and two typically Elizabethan windows survive. See photos. (5)
