TICKHILL CASTLE

A motte and bailey castle built by 1102, replaced by a stone built castle. Keep built 1178-9. The castle was dismantled by order of parliament in 1646. It was besieged in 1322, but was not taken. In the civil war it was garrisoned by the king, but surrendered in 1646. Scheduled.

The Medieval motte and bailey castle with surrounding moat, curtain wall, gatehouse and other structures, is visible as earthworks and structures on air photographs.
