More information : The town well at Conisborough is covered by a building very mediaeval-looking. In time of drought a saint named Francis is said to have struck the rock with his rod and water gushed out. (1) Town well situated in Wellgate. (2) [SK 5117 9881] This well is covered by a rectangular stone building 2.6 m. long x 2.0 m. wide x 3.0 m. high. A small square window [?] on the SW side has been bricked up. Date of well and date of erection of building not ascertained during field investigation. See GP/53/27/1. (3) The description by Authy. 3 is correct.o Though nothing is known concerning the origin of the well, it is still a functioning spring. (a) A 25" A.M. survey of the structure has been made.
