More information : In 1722 a Roman Pavement with foundations of walls was discovered. (1) Roman Pavement found A.D. 1722 (T.I.) [SK 58681263] (2) Nichols reported the discovery in 1722 of a pavement of small red & white tesserae with some human bones & roof tiles, which were found 'near a hedge' at Rothley. (3) The present incumbent of Rothley Vicarage, in whose back garden the alleged site of this Roman building falls, had no knowledge of it. Perambulation of the area revealed no traces of a building. (4) This site is a duplication of SK 51 SE 7, mistakenly sited near the church due to a misreading of Lewis's Topographical Dictionary. (5)
