More information : [SK 4968 4915] ROBIN HOOD'S WELL [GT]. (1) Robin Hood's well, a natural spring, provided water for the monks at Beauvale Priory. (2) Whether ROBIN HOOD'S WELL really had any connection with the possibly mythical outlaw of Sherwood Forest we leave to the fancy of the reader. (3) The name ROBIN HOOD'S WELL is still used. The well was extensively altered before 1939 when the site was a tourist attraction. (a) The 'Well' now falls in an area recently re-afforested. It is a spring-fed cistern of modern brick with the remains of a stone revetment wall on the west. A dug channel conducts the water away. No evidence of a Md. structure was seen. (4)
