PORTERS LODGE

DESCRIPTION + /

Remains of the gate-house of Bolsterstone Castle [SK 29 NE 1] the jamb and springer of one arch of a gateway and a small doorway with a shouldered lintel. A modern inscription states the date of this doorway is 1250, but this is inconsistent with weathering of the fabric, which indicates that the gate is later than that, and probably contemporary with Bolsterstone Castle, that is 16th or 17th century.
